Augusta County Railroad Club Information

Augusta County Railroad Club

Located in Waynesboro, Virginia, USA

The Augusta County Model Railroad Club was founded in 1993 with nine model railroaders who soon began using a small building on the grounds of a cement plant in Staunton. They built layouts, brought their own trains to operate, and at Christmas they had a free open house for the community come to see the trains run. As they grew they relocated to Waynesboro. In 2013 we began hosting the Shenandoah Valley Train Show and by 2014 we were operating in Waynesboro and in Staunton, moving to the Staunton Mall the next year and staying until the Mall closed in 2020. For all those years we had a tradition of regular (usually weekly) open houses when trains were operated for the public free of charge, opening more frequently during the holiday season, offering workshops, talks, and assistance with model train questions as well as hosting special openings for school and other groups as well as developing a collection of real railroad artifacts, a large library on railroads and model railroading. In addition, we take displays and layouts to the Augusta County Fair and other places. In our new home we will be able to resume all of this, starting after Thanksgiving 2024 with some layouts and displays.
